This follows his recent deployment to the department. In his new role, AIG Abubakar will be responsible for overseeing the operations and investigations conducted by the FCID.

SP Oluniyi Ogundeyi, the spokesperson for the department, confirmed the assumption of duty and the transfer of authority from Frank Mba, who has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police. With the transition of leadership, AIG Abubakar is expected to bring his wealth of experience and expertise to the FCID, ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of the department in its critical role of investigating and combating crime.

As AIG Abubakar assumes his new position, he has emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism, dedication, and integrity in carrying out the duties of the FCID. He has also issued stern warnings to officers and personnel under his command, reminding them of their responsibility to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of citizens during the course of their investigations.

With this new leadership change, it is expected that the FCID will continue its efforts in addressing criminal activities, ensuring justice, and maintaining public order and security. The police spokesperson, SP Oluniyi Ogundeyi, assured the public that AIG Abubakar’s assumption of duty will further strengthen the department’s commitment to serving and protecting the Nigerian people.

During his meeting with the heads of sections at the FCID, AIG Abubakar reiterated the importance of upholding professionalism and ethical conduct in the department. He emphasized that personnel of the FCID should not engage in stop-and-search duties or anti-crime patrols, as those responsibilities should be carried out by uniformed personnel of the state and zonal commands.

AIG Abubakar stressed the need for officers and men to prioritize evidence-based investigation and prosecution of criminal cases. He emphasized the importance of respecting human rights, avoiding illegal arrests and detentions, and refraining from engaging in any form of extortion or misconduct. The AIG also instructed the sectional heads to conduct regular inspections of detention centers to ensure compliance with regulations and safeguard the rights of detainees.

In his address, AIG Abubakar called for unity and teamwork among all officers and men in the department. He highlighted the significance of working together to enhance and sustain the department’s track record of achievements in combating crime and delivering justice.

By setting clear expectations and reinforcing the principles of professionalism, respect for human rights, and adherence to legal protocols, AIG Abubakar aims to create an environment within the FCID that fosters integrity, accountability, and effective crime investigation. The spokesperson, SP Oluniyi Ogundeyi, reaffirmed the commitment of the department to fulfill its mandate while upholding the highest standards of law enforcement.

AIG Abubakar further emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the policy guidelines of the police force. He instructed all heads of sections and units to ensure that officers and men under their command refrain from engaging in illegal activities or duties. They were specifically directed to avoid getting involved in civil matters, particularly those related to land disputes, which fall under the jurisdiction of civil courts.

To streamline the handling of petitions, AIG Abubakar emphasized the need for thorough vetting by the legal unit to filter out matters of a civil nature. All petitions addressed to the department must receive approval from the AIG and be duly assigned for investigation.

In addition, AIG Abubakar emphasized the importance of timely submission of investigation reports. He directed officers and men to submit interim reports within seven days of being assigned a petition, while final investigation reports must be submitted promptly.

These directives aim to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the investigative processes within the FCID. By ensuring that officers focus on their core duties, adhere to legal guidelines, and submit timely and comprehensive reports, AIG Abubakar seeks to enhance the professionalism and integrity of the department’s operations. The spokesperson, SP Oluniyi Ogundeyi, reiterated the commitment of the FCID to implement these directives and maintain the highest standards of service delivery.
