The Nigerian Army announced that a prominent Boko Haram Terrorists Commander named Bulama Bukar surrendered to the troops of 5 Brigade in Gubio, Borno State. According to Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the surrendered terrorist was the commander of the BHT Camp Tapkin Chad at Gilima village in Abadam LGA of Borno. Items recovered from him include one AK 47 rifle, 5 magazines, 44 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one magazine carrier jacket, one knife, one motorcycle, and the sum of N23,500. The suspect is currently undergoing profiling sessions.
Additionally, the Army spokesperson mentioned that troops engaged in aggressive operations to combat terrorists, insurgents, and criminals across the country. On October 17, troops of 2 Battalion ambushed insurgents at Udawa general area in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, eliminating three insurgents. The firefight led to the recovery of ammunition, firearms, motorcycles, a high-frequency communication radio, and mobile phones. One soldier lost his life during the encounter.
Furthermore, on the same day, troops of 1 Brigade intercepted a suspected ammunition courier in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara during a stop and search operation. The vigilant troops recovered 224 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one mobile phone, and N4,000 from the courier, who was allegedly on a mission to deliver ammunition to a bandit leader named Gishiri. The suspect is currently in custody undergoing further investigation.
