Boko Haram drug supplier arrested as NDLEA intercepts 7.6 tons of illicit drugs in Borno, Nasarawa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a total of 24 suspected drug traffickers and dealers, including individuals involved in smuggling drugs to conflict areas. Among the arrests, a 42-year-old man was intercepted while transporting concealed opioid pills to the Boko Haram insurgents’ enclave in Banki, Borno state. Additionally, a six-month pregnant woman and several other suspects, including women, were arrested across eight states in major interdiction operations, leading to the seizure of over 7,609 kilograms of assorted illicit drugs.

The largest seizure occurred in Nasarawa state, where NDLEA operatives intercepted a truck transporting 367 jumbo bags of cannabis sativa weighing 4,037 kilograms. Other significant seizures and arrests were made in Abuja, Ondo, Edo, Kano, Anambra, and Lagos states. The operations targeted drug trafficking networks and suppliers, resulting in the recovery of large quantities of tramadol, cannabis, and other illicit substances.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended the efforts of the commands involved and urged them to continue their vigilant efforts in combating drug trafficking and abuse. Additionally, the agency conducted War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaigns in various schools, markets, worship centers, and communities across the country to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
