The Coalition of Ethnic Nationalities for the Defence of Human Rights has demanded the immediate release of Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, the national president of Miyetti Allah Kautal-Hore, emphasizing that his arrest and ongoing detention are both unlawful and a violation of his fundamental human rights.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, Kabir Matazu, the leader of the coalition, underscored Mr. Bodejo’s significance as a contributor to resolving the current security challenges in Nigeria and urged authorities to release him promptly to maintain peace and uphold the rule of law. Failure to do so, the coalition warned, could prompt protests.

“Miyetti Allah Kautal-Hore is a Fulani socio-cultural group known for its efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence between Fulani nomads and farmers,” Mr. Matazu stated. “Mr. Bodejo’s detention is linked to his involvement in establishing a Nomads Vigilante Group, created transparently to complement government initiatives in restoring peace and addressing persistent security challenges.”

The coalition emphasized that the Nomads Vigilante Group emerged as a necessary response to existing security measures’ failure in protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity from threats such as Boko Haram, banditry, and kidnapping. They stressed that the group aims to collaborate with government security agencies to combat these issues effectively.

The arrest and detention of Mr. Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, the coalition argued, are not only illegal but also counterproductive, violating his fundamental human rights. They urged the government to recognize his commitment to peace and release him unconditionally, warning of potential nationwide protests if their demand is not met.

In closing, the coalition reiterated its dedication to contributing to a Nigeria characterized by unity, peace, and justice, pledging to continue individual and collective efforts toward this goal.
