According to recent reports, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has summoned former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for questioning regarding the controversial dollar videos. These videos were initially published by DAILY NIGERIAN in 2018 and sparked a significant controversy. At the time, Governor Ganduje claimed that the videos were “cloned” and not authentic.
However, the PCACC chairman, Muhuyi Magaji-Rimingado, recently announced that the commission has verified the authenticity of the videos. As a result, Governor Ganduje has been summoned to provide clarification and answer questions related to the videos. The purpose of the investigation is to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the videos and determine their authenticity.
According to a statement released by the spokesperson of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Kabir Abba-Kabir, former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has been invited for questioning in relation to the controversial dollar videos. The PCACC chairman, Muhuyi Magaji-Rimingado, confirmed the authenticity of the videos during a public dialogue on anti-corruption in Kano.
Mr. Rimingado stated that the videos had undergone forensic analysis, which revealed their authenticity. The commission expects Governor Ganduje to appear before them next week to provide an opportunity for him to address the ongoing investigation and clear his name. Mr. Rimingado emphasized that the commission is following the law and will ensure that the former governor has the chance to defend himself.
This invitation for questioning indicates that the PCACC is continuing its investigation into the controversial videos involving Governor Ganduje, with the aim of obtaining further information and allowing him the opportunity to present his side of the story.
When asked about the consequences if Governor Ganduje fails to appear before the commission, the chairman reiterated that the law provides measures to ensure compliance. He emphasized that the law is coercive in nature and compels obedience, stating that the commission will follow the necessary legal procedures.
Addressing allegations by the Coalition for Northern Civil Society Group that the investigation was initiated to ridicule the former governor and prevent him from securing a federal appointment, the chairman stated that the facts speak for themselves since the videos were released in 2018. The commission had previously expressed its intention to investigate the matter, but due to the governor’s immunity at the time, there were limitations on what the commission could do.
However, now that Governor Ganduje no longer enjoys immunity, the commission intends to reopen the investigation and provide him with an opportunity to defend himself. The chairman noted that the videos have brought ridicule to the state and its citizens globally, which necessitates a thorough examination of the matter.
