In a significant ruling, the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court handed down a severe punishment on Thursday, sentencing a gateman named Happiness Sunday to triple life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his employer’s children, aged 10 and eight. The judgment, delivered by Justice Abiola Soladoye, brought justice to the victims and highlighted the importance of protecting children from such heinous crimes.

The judge emphasized that the prosecution successfully proved the charges against the convict. The court learned that the defendant had been sexually assaulting the children, and the older child had bravely reported the incidents to their grandmother, seeking help. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the gateman had indeed committed the acts, touching both the sister and brother inappropriately.

Justice Soladoye denounced the defendant’s actions as utterly disgraceful, describing him as a sexual terrorist with a depraved and wicked nature. She emphasized the severity of his crimes, stating that his conduct was beastly and unacceptable. Consequently, he was sentenced to life imprisonment on each of the three counts, with his name being added to the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register.

The ruling serves as a reminder to society about the importance of vigilance in safeguarding children and ensuring their protection against any form of abuse. The state counsel, Olufunke Adegoke, and the witnesses who testified played a crucial role in ensuring that justice was served in this case. The verdict also highlights the commitment of the legal system to holding perpetrators accountable for their actions and providing justice to victims of sexual assault.
