A group of audacious armed individuals has launched an attack on a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) located in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. Tragically, the pastor was killed in the incident, while seven church members were abducted.
Soji Ganzallo, the commander of the Ogun State So-Safe Corps, officially confirmed the occurrence to the press in Abeokuta on Sunday.
Mr. Ganzallo provided details, stating that the corps successfully rescued the seven kidnapped church members and eliminated one of the abductors during a rescue mission.
In a statement released to the media by Moruf Yusuf, the Director of Information and Public Relations for So-Safe, it was reported that Mr. Ganzallo revealed the incident took place at midnight on Saturday.
According to Mr. Ganzallo, the Owode-Egba Zonal Command of the So-Safe Corps, headed by Jimoh Omoniyi, received an urgent call for assistance regarding an attack on the RCCG Desires of Nations Parish, belonging to Ogun Province 22, located in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. The attack occurred during a vigil, resulting in the kidnapping of seven church members and the tragic death of the pastor.
Mr. Ganzallo emphasized that the officers of the So-Safe Corps were given clear instructions to pursue the culprits and ensure the safe and unharmed rescue of the victims. Without delay, the officers sprang into action.
Providing an update on the situation, Mr. Ganzallo confirmed that all seven victims were successfully rescued without any injuries. Additionally, one of the kidnappers was neutralized during an exchange of gunfire, resulting in severe injuries sustained by several other suspects.
He further stated that a collaborative effort involving the police and the So-Safe Corps was underway to apprehend the fleeing kidnappers and bring them to justice alive.
The commander added that the deceased kidnapper’s body had been taken to a nearby morgue for further handling.
