Globacom subscribers could soon face restrictions on making calls to MTN lines, as interconnect charges between the two telecommunications companies remain unsettled. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) disclosed this development in a public notice released on Monday, signed by Reuben Muoka, the Director of the Public Affairs Department.
According to the notice, the NCC has granted partial approval for the disconnection of Globacom from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. Globacom was duly notified of MTN’s application and given an opportunity to present its case. Following a thorough examination of the application and the circumstances surrounding the outstanding interconnect charges, the NCC concluded that Globacom lacks sufficient or justifiable reasons for non-payment.
The notice stipulates that after a period of 10 days from the date of issuance, subscribers of Globacom may no longer be able to initiate calls to MTN numbers. However, they will retain the ability to receive calls. The partial disconnection is designed to allow inbound calls to the Globacom network to continue despite the impending restriction on outbound calls to MTN lines.
