Two women, Alice Odey, 27, and Blessing Onagbulum, 39, residing in New Nyanya, Karu, Nasarawa State, have been arraigned at a zonal Chief Magistrates’ Court in New Karu for engaging in a physical altercation resulting in injury. The incident, which occurred on February 14, Valentine’s Day, allegedly stemmed from accusations of marital infidelity.
The defendants were charged with breach of public peace, defamation of character, and causing harm. Both women pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them during the proceedings on Friday.
Inspector Shehu Ndam, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendants were apprehended following a violent altercation that took place in New Nyanya, Karu, Nasarawa State. Blessing accused Alice of engaging in an affair with her husband, while Alice countered by alleging that Blessing had used supernatural means to influence her husband.
The confrontation escalated into a physical fight, during which Alice reportedly stabbed Blessing multiple times with a broken bottle, causing injuries to her head, jaw, and neck. Blessing’s daughter, who witnessed the altercation, intervened by striking Alice with a stone.
The prosecutor outlined that the actions of the defendants violated sections 113, 139, and 245 of the Penal Code.
In response, Judge Godiya Bawa granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N100,000 each, with one surety each required to provide a similar amount. The case was adjourned until March 15 for further proceedings.
