President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken steps to replace the dissolved boards of federal government agencies by constituting a special committee for the task. Headed by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Gbajabiamila, the committee has been assigned the responsibility of establishing selection and nomination modalities that comply with the relevant laws governing the qualifications and requirements of appointees in the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) affected by the dissolution.
According to a source within the Presidency, President Tinubu has emphasized the need for thoroughness in the committee’s work, especially in understanding the agencies that require federal character representation or specific educational and technical expertise as mandated by their establishment Acts. The President has also stressed the importance of ensuring that the new boards reflect the diverse composition of the Nigerian population.
The committee comprises key individuals, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, the Special Adviser to the President on Political and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mallam Yau Darazo, as well as legal and private sector experts. These members bring a range of expertise and perspectives to the committee’s work, ensuring a comprehensive and informed approach to the selection and nomination process.
With the dissolution of the previous boards, the establishment of new boards is crucial for the effective functioning of the federal government agencies. President Tinubu’s directive to form this committee underscores his commitment to ensuring that the appointments are made in a transparent and inclusive manner, taking into consideration the legal requirements and the diverse needs of the Nigerian populace.
As the committee begins its work, it is expected to diligently assess the qualifications and expertise required for each agency, while also considering the principle of federal character to ensure fair representation. By appointing a diverse and capable set of individuals to lead the federal agencies, the government aims to enhance governance, promote inclusivity, and meet the needs of the Nigerian people effectively.
