Shocking Tragedy: 400-Level Female Student Allegedly Commits Suicide in Hotel Room, Police Report


In a devastating turn of events, the Police Command in Ogun State has revealed that a 400-level female student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ago-Iwoye, identified as Adaeze Jaja, has reportedly taken her own life in a hotel room.

Confirming the incident to journalists on Tuesday in Abeokuta, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the 31-year-old student was discovered unconscious in the hotel room, with foam emanating from her mouth and an empty bottle of Sniper, a popular insecticide, found nearby.

According to Mr. Odutola, the Director of Be-Happy Hotel in Ago-Iwoye, Oduniyi Adelaja, reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer of Ago-Iwoye Division on January 27 at 7:30 a.m. Adelaja stated that one of the hotel staff members, Adebayo Israel, had found Adaeze lying unconscious and foaming at the mouth on a freezer.

The police spokesperson explained that Adaeze was swiftly rushed to Best Care Hospital and subsequently transferred to Love and Care Hospital in Ago-Iwoye, where she was pronounced dead. Upon investigation, an empty bottle of Sniper was recovered from the scene.

Mr. Odutola confirmed that the police Divisional Crime Branch had commenced an investigation into the case, while the university authorities had been duly informed. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the OOU Teaching Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, sparking urgent discussions and calls for heightened awareness and support for mental health issues among students.
