The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has instructed its State Coordinators to extend their campaign against night travels by corps members and Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) to motor parks. The directive aims to discourage these individuals from embarking on journeys at night. Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, the Director-General of NYSC, made this announcement during the official opening of the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Pre-Orientation Course Workshop in Abuja.
According to Ahmed, unauthorized night journeys by corps members have become a recurring problem, leading to issues such as road accidents and abductions. To address this, State Coordinators are tasked with raising awareness at motor parks, transport companies, and other relevant stakeholders before the commencement of the orientation course. The NYSC management aims to curb this negative trend and enhance the safety of corps members and PCMs.
The purpose of the workshop is to review the conduct of previous orientation courses and strategize for improved performance, especially in light of the need for heightened security measures. Ahmed emphasized the importance of increased vigilance and a seamless exercise during this period.
The NYSC management is also focused on enhancing the impact of the orientation course by mentoring corps members in leadership, empowering them economically, and promoting teamwork among camp officials.
Additionally, financial prudence among camp officials is emphasized due to economic challenges, highlighting the need for wise resource management. Ahmed also stressed the significance of the NYSC uniform as a brand and a symbol of identity, urging corps members to take pride in wearing it.
