Terrorists kill four, abduct several others in fresh attacks in Zamfara

Terrorists have carried out two separate attacks on communities in the Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, resulting in the death of four residents and the abduction of several others. The attackers, in addition to burning down a house, also rustled domestic animals during their assaults.

A youth leader in the Zurmi area, identified as Abubakar (surname withheld), informed PREMIUM TIMES that the initial attack occurred on Tuesday near Yanbuki, while the second took place on Wednesday in Baichen Dauran. Zurmi remains particularly susceptible to terrorist activities, as these attacks continue to plague rural communities in the northwest region of Nigeria.

Detailing the events, Abubakar stated that during the first attack, terrorists intercepted a commercial vehicle near a location called Dutsi Uku, robbing the passengers. Subsequently, a group of vigilante members arrived at the scene and engaged the terrorists in gunfire. The terrorists, in response, fled from the vigilantes. However, they regrouped and awaited the vigilantes, eventually stopping two residents and killing them in retaliation for the vigilante intervention.

In the second attack at Baichen Dauran around 11 p.m., the terrorists, dressed in military camouflage uniforms, initially targeted domestic animals. As some residents attempted to flee, the attackers began indiscriminate shooting, resulting in further chaos and violence in the community.
