“WE HAVE SEEN POSITIVE MOVE BY THE MILITARY TO END PLATEAU CRISIS”… GOVERNOR MUTFUANG REVEALED

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr Caleb Mutfwang, has expressed his appreciation for the swift intervention of the military in addressing the recent crisis in Mangu Local Government Area and its surroundings. The Governor made this known during a courtesy visit to Government House Rayfield, Jos, on July 19, 2023, where he received the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army (NA) and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH).

Governor Mutfwang commended the GOC/Commander OPSH for demonstrating a strong commitment and passion for peace and security by relocating the OPSH headquarters to Mangu during the unrest. He acknowledged that the military’s presence had brought a sense of safety and security to the affected areas, and positive progress was being observed in restoring peace.

The Governor also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General CG Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Major General TA Lagbaja, for fulfilling their promises to support efforts in bringing lasting peace to the region. He urged the military leaders to permanently end the crisis on the Plateau, emphasizing the need for strong collaboration and cooperation between the state government and the military to combat the enemies of the state.

In response, Major General AE Abubakar, the GOC 3 Division NA and Commander OPSH, emphasized the importance of prioritizing national security for the sake of peace, unity, and development in the country. He assured that the military was committed to using both kinetic and non-kinetic measures, in conjunction with government support, to find lasting solutions to security challenges in the state.

General Abubakar explained that he relocated the OPSH headquarters to Mangu to assess the situation and devise effective strategies to combat the problem. He informed the Governor that additional troops and critical combat enablers had been deployed to strengthen ongoing operations and combat criminal elements causing unrest in the troubled areas.

During the visit, the GOC/Commander OPSH presented a memento to the Executive Governor, and group photographs were taken to mark the occasion.

The meeting between the Governor and the military leadership highlights the importance of collaboration and joint efforts in tackling security issues in the state. Both parties expressed their commitment to restoring normalcy and ensuring the safety and well-being of the people in the affected regions.
