Stella Okotete, the Executive Director of Business Development at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), has broken her silence regarding her disqualification as a ministerial nominee by the Nigerian Senate.
In a recent online interview on “Mic on Podcast,” Okotete addressed the circumstances surrounding her disqualification, attributing it to “purely political games.” She expressed her belief that certain individuals attempted to prevent her from serving the country in a higher capacity, but ultimately failed.
Okotete dismissed any notion of being a security threat, citing her current position at NEXIM Bank as evidence of her suitability for public service. She emphasized that the opposition she faced was driven by political motives, particularly fears that she might contest the 2027 Delta governorship election.
At 40 years old, Okotete reflected on her extensive experience in government positions, highlighting her previous roles as the national women leader for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and her current executive position at NEXIM Bank. She asserted that envy was a driving force behind the attempts to derail her career.
Addressing the allegations against her, Okotete revealed that a woman was behind the “frivolous” accusations. She described the individual as insecure and motivated by personal gain, rather than genuine concern for public service.
Throughout the interview, Okotete maintained her commitment to public service and distanced herself from partisan politics. She emphasized the importance of women supporting each other but lamented the betrayal she experienced from a fellow woman in this instance.
